Our story
Today, leaving Peru with a garment made from baby alpaca wool is an established tradition, but in the early 1980s, the potential of this silky soft fiber was yet to be uncovered. At the time, fashion designers were only starting to discover this natural fiber, with its warm and durable qualities that would soon make it a desirable
material the world over.
Rosa had always been fascinated by textiles from a young age. With an eye for design, she grew up creating designs using alpaca wool, learning everything she could to bring her designs to life. She dreamed of taking her Peruvian designs to the international market. In 1982, with the help of her husband, Hugo, she brought her dreams to life, creating one of the first companies to export beautiful and unique garments made from genuine alpaca fiber to global businesses.
Forty years later, Rosa’s daughter, Pilar, inspired by her parents' success, created Alpaca Origins—a US-based company distributing alpaca wool garments to customers in the US and across the globe. Rosa still designs the Alpaca Origins’ collections, alongside Pilar, and every garment is hand-woven in the highlands of the Andes using the softest alpaca wool yarn.
Large groups of artisans have worked for Alpaca Origins since the beginning, and the business continues to support them, giving them the best training possible.
Each detail is still added to the garments by hand, and Alpaca Origins commits itself to creating
the highest quality garments, providing a personalized service to customers, and supporting Peruvian families.
